Organic farming program
The organic farming program co-organized by the Jane Goodall Institute (Hong Kong) and FedEx has started. Four local primary schools have joined the program in this school year:
- Gaia School
- H.K.F.E.W. Wong Cho Bau School
- Maryknoll Fathers' School (Primary Section)
- St. Stephen's College Preparatory School
The program consists of a series of training, visits and at the end of June, an organic marketplace. We also help the partner schools start and maintain their own ‘FedEx Organic Garden’ on campus. Apart from primary students, a group of enthusiastic volunteers from FedEx also take part in the program. They will visit the partner schools and facilitate the ‘FedEx We Deliver Green Classroom’ which promotes low-carbon living through an interactive game.
Our first activity, the organic farming training day, took place on 7 January 2012 at the YMCA Tung Chung Green Organic Farm, where the students and FedEx volunteers had hands-on experience on organic farming and harvested fresh produce to take home.
