Project Summary
The Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC ), Environmental Protection Department (EPD ) and Education Bureau (EB) have been jointly organizing the Student Environmental Protection Ambassador Scheme (SEPAS) since 1995. The Scheme aims to develop in students a sense of responsibility towards the environment; and to nurture leadership among students and encourage them to take positive initiatives in improving the environment in the five partner schools.
To further enhance the effectiveness of the existing core programmes, Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots (JGRS) will pilot run an environmental education program in five primary schools in the 2011/2012 school year. JGRS will develop educational resources, help the schools plan and implement action-based environmental initiatives and facilitate experience sharing among the schools. The overall approach will include the following:
'123APE':
| '1'- Personal level | 'A' - Animals |
| '2' - School level | 'P' - People |
| '3' - Community level (including family) | 'E' - Environment |
Under the theme of ‘Waste Management’, there will be sub-themes related to Animals, People and the Environment. Students will be empowered to take action on a personal level, school level and community level.
Action-based: All training, activities and resources will be designed with the aim of bringing about informed action and self-initiated behavioral change.
Curriculum-tied: Training and activities will be tied in with the school curricula to help achieve curriculum objectives without overburdening teachers.
Whole-school participation: Every staff member, student and even parents will have a role to play.
The five partner schools of the Scheme are:
- CCC Tai O Primary School
- Fukien Secondary School Affiliated School
- HKFEW Wong Cho Bau School
- Kennedy School
- Northern Lamma School
